Comedienne Maragaret Cho stopped by the studio to show us her new music video “I'm Sorry” from her new album Cho Dependent, which is available in stores now. (Cho was taught how to sing by Cyndi Lauper for “I'm Sorry.”)
Cho will also kick off her nationwide tour, which will have a stop in New York City, on November 5 at The Beacon Theatre and Atlantic City on October 30 at Caesar's Atlantic City-Circus Maximus.
Cho also talked about the finale of season two of Drop Dead Diva and what fans can expect for season three of the series.

Fall preview: Comedy

“These three quipsters don't mind a little controversy”By Matthew Love

Nov 5 Joel McHale headlines the New York Comedy Festival
Joel McHale, the incorrigible smart-aleck host of The Soup on E! and charming slacker Jeff Winger on NBC’s Community, started doing stand-up only after he’d already achieved some success as a performer and his booking agent promised him a lot of money. Three years later, he’s a headliner at the New York Comedy Festival at Carnegie Hall.

Are you addicted to stand-up yet?
There is a compulsion to get up, but my schedule doesn’t allow [me to perform] as much as I’d like. When I started headlining, I told my agent, “Make sure you put me up in places where a lot of people won’t see me screw up.”
Live performance must be a different sort of animal for you.A crowd is different no matter where you go, and you have to adapt, but I love every minute of it. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.… Well, I would trade it for a spaceship.
Plus, you could put a camera inside the ship and still do stand-up. And just think about all the worlds I could bring it to!
Do you find it harder to make fun of family members than it is to make fun of D-list idiots on reality shows? No, it’s easier. As a child I was doing it to my father’s face. He’s truly my inspiration: a terrific character and a terrific smart-ass. I try to be like him.
Have you seen a show in Carnegie Hall?I’ve never even been inside. I’m so excited and honored. I’ll probably just poop a lot.
Hopefully you can take care of your excrement before your set.I’ll make arrangements to get a colonic backstage.

12. Gabriel Iglesias is fluffier than popcorn and at least ninety percent funnier.
11. Kevin Hart is such a dreamboat, don't you think? Wait, were you saying something?
10. B'cause Adam Carolla seems like the kinda feller you could have a beer with.
9. You hope Rosie O'Donnell flings sooo many Koosh Balls.
8. You live in the LES, and Margaret Cho totally gets it.
7. Nick Swardson's show is your only chance to wear a “Terry“outfit in November.

3. Louis CK makes you feel better about your relatively manageable anger problems.
2. You're Persian. That's, uh….that's really enough to make you see Maz Jobrani.
1. Between Human Giant, Flight of the Conchords, and Parks and Recreation, you like Aziz Ansari more than some of your own friends.

Side-splitting lineup for NY comedy fest

August 3, 2010
By Mandy Stadtmiller

This year’s New York Comedy Festival is all about talent so fresh it’s bursting at the seams.

From newly A-listed Aziz Ansari to the man so hot he’s juggling two networks, Joel McHale, the Manhattan-centric laugh festival has become the destination for the buzziest stars in comedy to be showcasing their latest material. Running Nov. 3 to Nov. 7, the festival features more than 150 comedians at more than 10 venues, including main event producer Carolines on Broadway

“I’m thrilled to give the New York Comedy Festival another try this November,” deadpanned “Community” and “The Soup” star McHale in a statement released about his return to the event.

“To be playing Carnegie Hall is a milestone in the Festival’s misjudgment, but for me it is a dream come true.”

Tickets for all the festival’s shows, which includes sponsors Comedy Central and The Post, are available at nycomedyfestival.com.

“This year’s line-up is filled with a number of breakout comedians and a group of seasoned performers that give the festival great range,” says creator Caroline Hirsch. “We’re especially excited about the talent.”

The lineup this year offers stand-up for pretty much everyone including original man’s man Adam Carolla, provocateur Margaret Cho, edgy Louis C.K., quick-witted Nick Swardson and ex-“View” star Rosie O’Donnell. C.K., another in-the-zeitgeist comic right now who’s starring in his own F/X series, will also play Carnegie Hall on Thursday, November 4, at 8 p.m. in a show called, “Word.”

“There’s going to be a lot of laughs this November,” Hirsch said.

Word.
